Fine Arts Museum Cuba

The National Museum of Fine arts of Havana consists of 2 buildings (built at different times), one focused on Universal Arts while the other is dedicated to Cuban Art. The first building, known as the Palacio del Centro Asturiano, was opened in 1913 with Emilio Hereda as its first director. This building was designed by Manuel Bustos and it is home to the Universal Arts exhibits. Later on, a new Palacio of Bellas Artes designed by Rodriguez Pichardo was opened in 1954. This new building was recently reconstructed by architect Jose Linares, and it is currently dedicated to Cuban Art.

Palacio de Bellas Artes - Cuban Section
  • This museum spans the multiple aspects of the 17th and 19th centuries such as narratives and religion from the time.
  • The Palacio de Bellas Artes is home to lots of Revolution-themed artwork.
  • Another important wave featured in the Palace of Fine Arts is Hyperrealism (simulation of reality that brings together reality and fiction). These are more contemporary expositions.

Palacio del Centro Asturiano - International Section
  • The building facade is modern with reflective windows and breathtaking stonework.
  • Home to paintings and sculptures from various parts of the world such as Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the United States.
  • During 1959, this building was used as the Supreme Court of Justice.
